I am not really a morning person. Isn’t that funny? I long to be ‘like the morning sun’ – hence the blog name – but if I have the chance, I’d like to sleep late and then stay up until midnight.

I don’t often have that chance though. I have a bunch of children, you see. So on week days I have to get up before 7 a.m. And it would be wise to go to bed at a decent time. It sure would be wise…

It’s not like I have a grumpy mood in the morning. I just need some time to adjust to being awake. And I don’t like to eat bread, toast or eggs that early. I rather make myself an easy smoothie, to start the day with a healthy breakfast packed with vitamins and fiber. Like this one.

Banana blueberry smoothie with yogurt – healthy recipe


  • a handful of (frozen) blueberries
  • a banana
  • an orange (peeled, not juiced)
  • 250ml / 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 40g / ½ cup (instant) oats

Just throw everything in the blender. I usually don’t juice the orange, because then the fiber will be lost (and fiber makes me feel more full and satisfied). Turn the blender on and watch the colors blend until your smoothie has a pretty purple color. Pour yourself a glass and enjoy!

I often replace the blueberries for (frozen) strawberries. A ripe avocado gives the smoothie a more creamy texture. Sometimes I add a handful of spinach, but of course this makes the smoothie less sweet. And very green. Not my husband’s favorite – he won’t even try it because it looks too ‘healthy’ for his taste!

    Wow! that really sounds delicious, My favorite smoothie is Mango, banana & pineapple. But after reading and seeing the amazing pictures you took, I can’t wait to try it.
