In the morning when I rise…

I just have to get up. Duty calls! My oldest will be picked up by the school bus around 7:30 a.m. So, throw your feet out of bed – now!

In the morning when I rise…

Three of my boys will bicycle to school at the end of the street around 8:15 a.m. They have to get themselves dressed, do their morning chores, eat breakfast and fix their lunches. So I have to wake them up – now!

In the morning when I rise…

I put on my bathrobe over my pajamas and run up and down the stairs. ‘Aren’t you out of bed yet? Hurry up!’

I set the table, help them fix their lunches and fill their schoolbags, clean up spilled milk, see to it that they don’t spread an extreme amount of peanut butter on their sandwiches, help them remember to brush their teeth and, 0h – his shoes are missing.

‘Where did you take them off them yesterday? Didn’t I tell you to put them in the hallway?’

In the morning when I rise…

Things rarely go as smoothly as I would like. Almost always something unexpected pops up. And I start to feel somewhat agitated and frustrated… I realize how easy it is to react impatiently, how often I lack in kindness and understanding.

Those shoes should be somewhere in here right?

In the morning when I rise…

Wait. Who granted me this new morning? Who has made this day? Have I thought of Him yet? Did I start the day by focusing first on Him? Have I sought His face? Or is He still waiting for me, waiting in vain for me to come before throne of grace, to receive mercy and find grace to help me in the time of need? (Hebrews 4:16)

That time when I need patience – He is the One who wants to give it to me! That moment when I lack kind words – He wants to provide me with those words that encourages my children, and help them to start the day with a positive attitude. He is waiting for me – I just have to approach Him and be humble enough to ask for help.

In the morning when I rise – give me Jesus.

So, how was your morning today?

– Anne
