You still fit on my lap

My little boy,

They’re off to school – your sister, and your three big brothers too.

But you’re still here, my little boy, ‘cause you are only three

You are my youngest, and I watch all that you say and do

Because just for a little while you’ll only be with me.

The days will come, now soon enough, you’ll go to school and wave,

“Bye mom, I’m fine.” And I’ll smile and nod and feel a little blue

I know it’s time – but time just flies, and I wonder if I gave

enough of me – my time, my love, my everything – to you.

Come sit with me, let’s read a book, let’s laugh and make a wish

Let’s play a game, let’s sing a song, together take a nap

Just wrap your arms around my neck, give me a little kiss

Let’s pause now for a moment  – ‘cause you still fit on my lap.

Love, mom

Oh my goodness, this was such a heartwarming post. I’ve got 2 under 4 and I am already getting jitters as my oldest starts school soon. Gah.

brought tears to my eyes. My only son is 10 and he’s nearly taller than me already. Great reminder to cherish every moment. Happy Christmas!
